TP4054 Single-Cell Li-Ion Battery Charger IC
The TP4054 is a complete constant-current/constant-voltage linear charger designed for single-cell lithium-ion batteries. Its compact SOT-23-5 package and low external component count make it suitable for portable and space-constrained electronic products.
The TP4054 provides a fixed 4.2V final float voltage with ±1% accuracy. Charge current is programmed using a single external resistor connected to the PROG pin. Under suitable PCB thermal conditions, the device supports programmable charging current up to approximately 800mA.
An internal PMOS power device eliminates the need for an external current-sense resistor or blocking diode. Integrated thermal regulation automatically reduces charging current when device temperature rises, helping protect the charger during high-current or high-ambient-temperature operation.
When battery voltage is below approximately 2.9V, the TP4054 enters trickle-charge mode. Above this threshold it switches to constant-current charging, then transitions to constant-voltage operation as battery voltage approaches 4.2V. Charging terminates when current falls to approximately one-tenth of the programmed current.
